Super Easy Toy in Clear Soap Recipe!
*Clean pot with lid placed over saucepan with water (double boiler type set up) or use microwave on low.
(Avoid the soap base getting too hot - it will sweat or cause the glycerine to bead the soap)
*1-lb ultra clear soap base
*Soap molds of your choice (plastic, metal, tupperware, drawer organizers jello molds, candy molds, etc.)
*Small toys of your choice (ensure safety of toy and caution of small toy for children under 3 years.)
*You will need four - 4 oz size molds for 1-lb of soap base or 1 double drawer organizer.
*Spritz (spray) bottle with rubbing alcohol (removed excess air bubbles on soap
and works as an adhesive for embedding objects or attaching layers)
Choice of fragrance and/or colour (these are optional) - try 1 teaspoon of fragrance per 1 pound of soap base.
Chop up soap into small cubes and melt in double boiler
or use a pyrex cup in the microwave. If you prefer the microwave - watch
your soap! It will melt in about 20-30 seconds. As soon as it becomes liquid - stop the microwave.
Avoid hot temperatures. <
Adding Colour Option
Add 1-3 drops of liquid dye and stir into melted soap until uniform colour is reached.
Adding Scent Option
You can scent the soap base with anything you like - as long as it is cosmetic grade and you like the fragrance. You may use essential oils or fragrance oils.
If you like a good scent in your soap - the rule of thumb is 1 to 2 teaspoons per pound of soap.
This varies of course with personal preference and strength of fragrance but use at least 1 teaspoon or you won't have much of a fragrance to your soap.
Embedding Your Toy
* Once your soap is melted, take it off the heat and add your optional colour and scent.
*Have your molds ready (shouldn't need to grease), pour a very small amount into your desired mold(s) (about 1/4 inch thick).
*Spritz with rubbing alcohol to get rid of air bubbles.
*When the soap is set (about 10 minutes), gently place your toy/object on top of the soap.
*Spritz with alcohol one more time and pour remaining soap over top of soap.
*If toy/objects floats or swims around - just push it back into place.
Final spritz with alcohol and let it set. Try not to move or jiggle the molds or your soap will wrinkle which will interfere with the clarity of the soap and you won't see your object as well.
Leave it alone until it is set. Once it is set, gently release from the molds.
You may have to score the sides to release.
Once released - you are ready for good, clean fun!
Wrap soap in plastic wrap to store.
