Why Should I Use Clay?
Clay is used for its natural properties in and on the body.
Externally, it reduces swellings, inflammation, drains infections and contaminations, cleanses and protects the skin. It is used in facials, poultices , body wraps and baths.
Internally, it cleanses, drains, detoxifies, balances the pH and the intestinal flora. It is not absorbed by the body, but communicates with it, exchanging cations and removing toxins.
How To Prepare a Clay poultice.
The best tools to use clays are non metallic . Wooden spoons or spatula , glass or wood bowls . Plastics are also acceptable. You Will need a bowl a spoon and some gaze or plain paper towel.
Pour some water in the bowl and add the clay such that the clay is totally immerged. You want to obtain a paste that is consistent. If too hard it will be difficult to apply, if too liquid you will have a big mess on your hands.
After waiting for 5 to 10 minutes the clay is ready to use. Using the spoon spread the clay on the gaze or paper towel. The thicker the layer the longer you can apply the clay on your skin. The clay will only act if wet. Usually a facial is 1/4 inch thick and a poultice can be from 1/2 to 1 inch thick. Apply the poultice or facial directly on the skin. you can keep a poultice at least 2 hours or all night . A facial is left to dry: between 10 to 20 minutes.
Removing the Clay
Once applied the clay cannot be reused. t must be discarded. It can be composted. To remove the clay use warm water and gently wash it out.
